Description
Many years ago when I was in college I fell in love with a beautiful blond. It is funny because we met in a department store. I saw her working in the woman's underwear section. I was embarrassed to be in that section but I wandered in to take a closer look. Our eyes touched and we both smiled and she asked me if she could help me. I stupidly responded, "no, just looking". Yea in a woman's undergarment section. I thought to myself I must really look like a pervert.
Later on that evening I was drawn back to the department store to see if she was still working there. In today's world what I was doing would be called stalking. She saw me and I got up the courage to walk toward her. She was so sweet and pleasant and we had a beautiful chat and then she told me when she got off of work.
I don't remember where we went probably to the local diner for a cup of coffee. Well it did not take long before we were going places together including church. We seemed to fit so well together except for one thing, I was only in my second year of college and she had on her mind the white picket fence dream.
Well one summer I went to Alaska to work. The only way we could keep in touch was the old fashioned snail mail and we both wrote often. What I didn't tell you was before I went away to work for the summer I had asked her parents if I could marry Nancy after I finished college.
Well while I was there she wrote me a "Dear John" letter. She had a friend who she had known for many years who had a home with a white picket fence and he invited her to come up (New York State) to visit. The rest is history. I never saw her again and she married this old friend. From time to time I would hear about how she was doing, and things were not going well for her. I hurt deeply inside, I do even now as I write this.
Well last year guess who I found on Facebook. You guessed it Nancy. Thirty five years later, just as beautiful but with long gray hair instead of blond. We caught up a bit and I was happy that she had remarried and had a house full of children and she was happy.
Well it was about that time that I was getting out of the hospital and beginning my journey into painting. I had just found the digital painting tools online and I was experimenting with them when Nancy showed me a picture of her horse Flicka. So guess what I did? You guessed it. This picture of a horse so very crudely done is the first painting I every did and the first painting I posted on FAA. I can always find it because if I click Previous in the FAA image area, it goes right to the painting.
This painting brings up a lot of different feelings for me and I will always cherish this painting.
