The problem is that many people do not believe in what Jesus did and either ignore or deny it, or have a belief that we have to earn our way to Heaven. We can not do anything to get to Heaven. Because if that were true, that would mean that when Jesus died on the Cross, what He did was not sufficient to appease God's wrath because we sin. The Bible says, "all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God" and "the wages of sin is death BUT the gift of God is through Jesus Christ."
